I love the landscapes and people of Southwest Virginia. The valleys and mountains have wonderful natural hidden vistas and rivers. Our towns are full of fascinating scenes. Painting energizes visual and mental freedom for me. As water moves through my paintings it creates transparent images like what we see through our internal filters. I am drawn to exploring what is beyond our initial perceptions to uncover unknown truths. I strive to express my joy at the beauty of the world.
All of my compositions are original whether drawn and painted en plein air or modified from my own photos. My art is created with transparent and deeper layers of watercolor and gouache. I often use Holbein and Daniel Smith paints and Arches 140 lb or 300 lb paper.
In my work as a psychotherapist I learned that the moment of discovery is the most intense human experience. It is my pleasure to share my discoveries with you.
